Rio is a short walk from Samara’s beach, restaurants and nightlife. You’ll love Rio because of the equipped kitchen, great outside spaces, 2 bedroom layout, handcrafted furniture and comfortable beds. Rio and 5 other villas share the Villas Espavel property nestled against the jungle and a seasonal river. With the beautiful  pool and towering trees, you’ll relish the cool shade of Villas Espavel when the rest of town is scorching. Rio is good for couples, families and small groups.

Rio sleeps up to 6 guests on 3 luxurious beds in two bedrooms. Rio is pool front, with a big porch and balcony, ceiling fans, custom wood furniture, a well-equipped kitchen, dining table & hammocks. In the kitchen you’ll find a 3-burner gas stove and all the kitchen implements you’ll need to prepare beautiful meals. There are powerful ceiling fans to keep you cool; over the beds, in the living area and on the outside patio & balcony.

We spend most of our time outside and I bet you will too. Favorite pass times are swinging in the hammock while looking at the green jungle and swimming in the cool pool.

Rio is set on the peaceful grounds of Villas Espavel where you share a pool, tree-top yoga rancho, and riverfront jungle with the owner’s home and 5 other Villas. Each Villa also has its own patio or balcony. Villas Espavel is a 5 to 10-minute walk to the beach, restaurants, Intercultura language school and The Costa Rica School of Massage.

Villas Espavel is very secure as the property is hidden away down a long driveway where 4 parking spots are shared amongst the guests of Villas Espavel. All the windows have window screens and security bars.

You will see our managers Tano & Johannah, our head cleaner, Magali, and our gardener, Caliche, onsite a few days per week. If you have questions while you settle in, you can reach Johannah or Mercy & Canuche by WhatsApp.  We have a washer available if you need one during your stay.

Villa Rio

Our family had a wonderful time staying in Villa Rio. The service, cleanliness and abundance of shared item for the pool, etc were all great! The location was perfect and we had everything we needed for our stay. We enjoyed getting to know other travelers while visiting and look forward to coming back one day!

Malorie it was great to have you and your family at Villas Espavel. We love it when kids enjoy our place--That's what it's for! Come back soon.

Best town (Samara) and best accommodations! We have already booked for next November! This small and comfortable little group of villas with wonderful pool and separate deck for exercising, yoga etc. fit our needs perfectly. Beautiful landscaping, quiet and safe. Villas include everything you will need. I cannot say enough about the wonderful attentive staff.

Thanks so much for the review. We loved having you guys~

Perfect mix of local and luxury

We loved our experience at Villa Rio. The pool, landscaping, and attention to detail felt like a resort, while the proximity to the town, and the fact that Joanna and the owners are very connected with the community felt like we were able to see a piece of what it would be like to live in Costa Rica. I was worried that I might be uncomfortable without air conditioning because it was the end of dry season and very hot. On the contrary, it was very comfortable and we missed the open connection with the jungle when we went to stay in La Fortuna. There was a local fisherman who came with fresh tuna and shrimp which we were able to cook the same day. It was so fresh that it may have ruined me for grocery seafood forever! lol. We went everywhere on the bikes that you can rent, there is no need to drive. Everything is so close, and there ar plenty of places to eat on the beach since Samara is not built up with resorts. It has a very local family feel. We hope to come back again and bring more family for a visit! Thank you for the terrific experience!

Lovely, well-maintained spot for your base camp in Samara

What a treasure we found at Villas Espavel! We spent two weeks in Villa Rio and had a wonderful time there. It's a beautiful and tranquil setting, just a short walk or bike ride to town, but it feels miles away from anything. We used the yoga rancho and pool every day, and our kids loved the mini zip-line and tarzan swing. The staff are all delightful and helpful, and the local manager was very responsive on Whatsapp for any questions or issues. Great to have laundry on-site, and bikes and other beach gear to rent, and they have compiled a thorough welcome packet (that's also digital) with info about the area and tips for your stay. I highly recommend Villas Espavel, and can't wait to go back!

Happy place!

‘Villas Espavel’ was absolutely perfect for our family (3 kids). It is a very serene setting, lovely houses, pool, jungle in the backdrop (monkeys!), pool was perfect. Samára is a small town, no highrises or big hotels, some excellent restaurants. The staff is wonderful! Kind and helpful. Tano organized the best activities for us! We just left Villas Espavel and are so relaxed now.

Awesome stay

Myself and a friend stayed at Villa Rio for 7 nights. Villa was comfortable, clean and all staff were really friendly. It’s in a great location, easy to get to the beach, lots of restaurants and bars yet a little on the outside to feel you’re in a little oasis. We were regularly visited by Howler Monkies. Having the communal pool, also well kept, meant all guests would chat & it was a social space. Highly recommend.
